The Norwegian Armed Forces represents the agency`s largest and most important customer but the agency is not part of the Armed Forces` military organisation.
The Norwegian Defence Estates Agency is divided into six units:
Construction Management plans and implements development projects for the Armed Forces, and constructs effective camp structures, which offer the Armed Forces significant reductions in terms of areas needed, as well as in terms of rents and operating costs. The unit is organised on the basis of customer needs, with a presence in all force concentration areas of the Armed Forces.
Property and Facility Management provides comprehensive property and facility leasing and management services to the Armed Forces, and leases, operates and maintains buildings totalling 3.8 million square metres. The unit serves approximately 14,500 buildings in total, and manages a land area of approximately 325,000 acres. Gross operating revenue in 2005 totalled NOK 1,859 million.
National Fortifications Heritage shall bring Norwegian fortifications into a new era, and preserve their character and history through developing the fortifications into attractive arenas for culture, business and experiences.
Sales Management disposes of properties, buildings and facilities that are no longer needed by the Armed Forces and adapts the properties for civilian use. Sales are mainly effected on market terms and through open bidding.
Specialist Advisory is an unique advisory centre, with expert knowledge of defence-specific properties, buildings and facilities. The unit covers the entire total defence sector, and the core areas are protection and security, the external and internal environment, as well as legal services. Specialist Advisory consists of four departements: Department of Protection and Security, Department of Research and Development, Department of the Environment and Department of Legal Services
Administrative Services provides administrative support services for all departments internally within NDEA.
