Opening hours for the fortress area
The fortress area is open every day all year, day and night.

Entrance fee
The entrance to the fortress area is free. Museums, events, restaurants and concerts may have other opening hours and fees.

How to get to Fredrikstad Fortress - the Old Town?
By car
Fredrikstad Fortress is located approximately 7,5 miles south-east from Oslo. From Fredrikstad city center you will find signs that guid you to the Fortess. 

By bus or train
See www.vy.no or www.ruter.no for more information.

By ferry
See timetables at Fredrikstad kommune.

Parking
There is paid parking in the parking lot right at det main entrance to the fortress.

Toilets
Follow signage at the fortress area.

Accessibility
The roads in the fortification town are cobbled, but the area is relatively flat. The Tourist Information Office and the town museum are disabled friendly. There is a disabled toilet in the old pump house in the south-western part of the town.

Safety and availability
The fortification town of Fredrikstad has many high walls. Some of them are not secured. Be careful when walking along the fortress walls, and keep a close eye on children.

Show respect
Littering and other thoughtless behaviour can easily spoil the appearance of the fortress, so please use the litter bins that have been provided. There is a year-round prohibition on fires and barbecues. Visitors are not allowed to remove parts of buildings, bricks, stones, timber or other loose objects from the fortress. It is not allowed to climb on the cannons. 

Waste
Throw waste in the litter bins and recycle if possible.

Bring a dog
All dogs must be leashed at all times.

Barbeque
Barbeque and open fire are prohibited.

Guided tours

Fredrikstad Museum
 is located in Tøihuset. Visitors can learn about the history of the town throughout the ages. Contact the museum for more information.
