The fortress area is open every day all year.
Entrance fee
The entrance to the fortress area is free. Museums, events and Festningen Hotel & Resort have other opening hours and fees.
How to get to Kongsvinger Fortress?
By car
The easiest way of getting to Kongsvinger Fortress is by car. The fortress is an hour’s drive from Oslo city centre and 50 minutes drive from Gardermoen. Follow the signs from Kongsvinger city centre.

Parking
Free parking in the outer fortress area by tourist office.

Toilets
Follow the signs at the inner fortress. There are HC-toilets at the hotel.
Accessibility
The terrain is steep, and the entrance and the whole parade ground are cobbled. People with reduced mobility can contact Forsvarsbygg’s service center or event manager to drive all the the way to the fortress area and park at an assigned location. The hotel has disabled toilets and a lift.
Safety and availability
Kongsvinger is a fortress with high walls. Some of them are not secured. Be careful when walking along the fortress walls, and keep a close eye on children. Be aware that cobblestones and stairs can be slippery in rainy weather and in the winter.
Show respect
Kristiansten Fortress is a protected national cultural monument and we ask everyone to show respect for the surroundings whit buldings, ruins, monuments and parks. Visitors are not allowed to remove parts of buildings, bricks, stones, timber or other loose objects from the fortress. The lawns are there to be used. Be kind to our treees.
Waste
Throw waste in the litter bins and recycle if possible.
Bring the dog
All dogs must be leashed at all times.
Barbeque
Barbeque and open fire are prohibited all year.

Several of the museums convey the history of Kongsvinger Fortress.
